Breakneck Gallery Presents “Defending Erie”
17020 Madison Ave. Lakewood, Ohio 44107
Opening & Artist Reception: November 26th From 6pm to 10pm
Show runs from November 26th till December 9th
Breakneck’s next exciting show will be called “Defending Erie”: an art show about surfing and saving our Great Lake Co-Curated by Scott Ditzenberger (Producer and Director of the Surf documentary “Out of Place”). The artwork will be following the themes of surfing, Lake Erie and yes, surfing on Lake Erie. Why a show about surfing in November you ask? The answer is because winter, when we think of huddling up and staying inside,is when the brave souls who surf our Great Lake go out to try catch a wave! Many of the artists involved in the show are surfers from the area and the medias for the artwork used vary from painting, to photography, to surfboards, to even film. As for the film, we will be showing the locally made documentary “Out of Place”, a documentary about the unlikely story of surfing in Cleveland, Ohio. The film has been shown in the Cleveland International Film Festival, The Honolulu Surf Film Festival, The Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and won Viewers Choice Best Feature at The New York Surf Film Festival.
The opening party will be on Saturday November 26th (which is also “Small Business Saturday”) from 6-10pm, with food, drinks, music, film, fun, and of course ART! During the opening there will also be a live performance by surf guitarist Mike Trem. The show will only run till December 9th so don’t miss it!
Catalogs of the show will be available with part of the proceeds going to the funding of the Lake Erie organizing chapter of the surfrider foundation- a nonprofit grassroots organization protecting our oceans, waves, beaches, rivers and lakes!
